Character Appearance
Kalrog is a 6’2”, 217lb moon elf with very white skin that appears tinged with blue. High cheek bones and a regal bearing carry his angular face, elven ears and piercing, vibrant green eyes that are flecked with gold. Long, straight, black hair tops his head. He is slim but strong. Not a muscular build but has some power to his nimble frame. He is clean and well dressed as a noble would be in his black studded leather armour. He is dressed entirely in black most of the time.
Character Backstory
Before his birth, his mother and father were out travelling in the countryside when they were set upon by bandits. Out of nowhere a half-orc and his brother emerged from the underbrush and slew the bandits. As a boon the expectant father pledged to name his son after this half-orc wanderer. Kalrog was born shortly after into a life of luxury and excess. As part of a sapling branch of the Straeth family, he was given the finest clothing, schooling and training. His family legacy goes back hundreds of years to when they used to trade paintings and scupltures for ore and metals in the early years of Evereska. His own family’s home is located in the Vine Vale and they survive off their holdings. Much like his home, Kalrog was a bit of an outsider growing up. His peers mocked and teased him for his strange name and country seat to the point that he never felt like he fit in with the aristocracy. His doting parents sought to make this right for their frustrated, angsty son and would often throw lavish parties and events in their country estates for the young urban elves. This had the opposite effect than intended and the others chided and mocked Kalrog further.
Eventually he found some more unsavoury characters in the shadows of Moondark Hill who accepted him without mocking and allowed his persistent shame to abate. In particular, there is a young, talented thief who took Kalrog under his wing and taught him the craft of a rogue. While not a full fledged member of the local thieve’s guild, he is respected and recognized by them in time, as someone with impressive talents. His association to the young thief is also a big reason for his acceptance in their community. Kalrog had found his people after many years. It is a shame he didn’t find them sooner in life because by this time he is bitter, untrusting, and angry while also feeling lonely and vulnerable. He has tried to befriend members of the nobility many times over his life and was frequently betrayed. Having seen this pattern many times, he will turn on people quickly at the first sign they might not be a friend.
Further, after three decades of spending and grovelling to improve their son’s status his parents found their treasury somewhat depleted and the standing of their house was diminished by this and by their heir’s lowly status amongst the nobility. Their prospects were waning. This didn’t deter Kalrog, he himself had accepted that he was not going to be a typical noble lord in elvish society. He shyed away from the pursuits of his peers and instead fell into the world of his new friends. He began to learn some some skills not valued by the nobility. These pursuits would bring more mocking and shame to him and his parents. Eventually the ridicule and teasing take their toll and Kalrog starts to lash out at his peers. Sometimes in verbal sparring but most often he employs his rogue talents to take revenge on individuals. He is never proven guitly but often suspected of scandalous behaviour. This does nothing for his reputation.
He also has a complex relationship with his father. He looks down on him for not being able to defeat a rabble of bandits which generated the situation where he received his name. But he also loves him for doing everything he could to help him enjoy life. His mother never fails in her unbridled support of her son and continues to dote on him when she isn’t busy trying to maintain their dwindling estates. He feels shame for being the cause of his house’s downfall and seeks to avoid weakness. He learns the skills of the nobility grudgingly but learns the tricks of a rogue passionately. He becomes a magic user, powerful in his own right. His parents even hire private instructors to make sure he is skilled enough to not be a danger to himself. They are still supportive of Kalrog’s choices but it becomes more transparent over the years that they don’t understand why he has chosen this path and want him to take his rightful place in the nobility. This causes tension in their home. Kalrog is seeking to avoid being weak and as part of his disdain for the nobility, loathes those who can’t look after themselves.
By the time he is in his mid-70’s he has an impressive skill set but hasn’t done much with it yet. He knows that things are getting more desperate for his house and his legacy so he decides that it is time to change the fates. He knows that he has to accomplish a great deed to bring glory back to his house and to make his parents proud and prove his worth to them. News has reached them that there is a great threat on the island of Chult and Kalrog decrees that he will set out to curtail this danger. In support of his decision, his father prematurely bestowed the family blade on him and tasked him with earning its favour and bringing glory to their family. At seventy seven years of age, Kalrog now has purpose and direction and a new confidence swells in him as he sets out for Chult and whatever adventure he might find there.

Treasure
His family is wealthy but have seen their fortunes declining over his lifetime. They own land and titles that he is set to inherit. His moonblade is a powerful family heirloom. Of all the magic items created by the elves, one of the most prized and jealously guarded is a moon blade. In ancient times, nearly all elven noble houses claimed one such blade. Over the centuries, some blades have faded from the world, their magic lost as family lines have become extinct. Other blades have vanished with their bearers during great quests. Thus, only a few of these weapons remain. A moonblade passes down from parent to child. The sword chooses its bearer and remains bonded to that person for life. If the bearer dies, another heir can claim the blade. If no worthy heir exists, the sword lies dormant. It functions like a normal longsword until a worthy soul finds it and lays claim to its power. A moonblade serves only one master at a time. The attunement process requires a special ritual in the throne room of an elven regent or in a temple dedicated to the elven gods. A moonblade won't serve anyone it regards as craven, erratic, corrupt, or at odds with preserving and protecting elvenkind.
